Father’s day brings a lot of emotions to men in many different ways. Some of us have had good, bad and some may have never known their dad. It’s a time of dinners, picnics, getting together or even tractor rides. A day to celebrate our dad, embracing our own kids and some for some of us, our grandchildren.
All of us can probably think of some father wounds we might of had or even given to our own children. I believe these wounds are sometimes passed down from generation to generation. It is because we live in a fallen world in need of a Savior. Sometimes these wounds are so deep that it takes only prayer and our Lord’s grace for us to overcome.
I like the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32. The son asks for his inheritance before his father had died. His father graciously gives it to him and so the story unfolds. He goes through his money like water. So called friends help him spend it and now he’s every one’s friend. He blows it and finds that he needs to work just to survive. So called friends are gone. So he goes to feeding pigs and even eating what lays before them. He finally comes to his senses and knows his father’s servants eat better than this.
So here’s the best part, it says in verse 20 that while he was still far off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion he ran to his son, embraced and kissed him. His son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you. I am no longer worthy to be your son”.
What does the father do? He says, “Quick! Bring the finest robe, get him a ring and place sandals on his feet. Get the fatted calf and let’s celebrate. My son who was once dead is now returned to life. He was lost, but now is found!”
We have a Heavenly Father who never fails. He waits at that gate and then comes running. I believe this is what Father’s Day is truly all about. Our Lord who came and died on a cross for our sins. All we have to do is confess our sins and He is faithful and just to forgive. Praise God!
Remember, the Lord is our true Father. If you haven’t asked Christ to be a part of your life, today is the day. For those who have heartache, give it to Him. Happy Father’s Day, men. Blessing on your day.
Strength and Courage.
